Architectural Survey of Lakeshore Historic District

The City of Evanston has been given a $12,000 grant by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency to conduct an architectural survey of the Lakeshore Historic District. The survey will be conducted by Granacki Historic Consultants. Vicki Granacki has almost 30 years of experience in master planning, urban design, and historic preservation activities. She serves on the Board of Directors of Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois. (http://www.historicpreservationchicago.com )

The purpose of this survey is to assess the 323 structures within this district, prepare an inventory of their architectural features, note their current condition, and note any changes to the structures over time. (Property tax assessments are not being changed as part of this survey.)

The survey will include photographic documentation of the exterior of each primary and secondary structure in the survey area. This information will become available on-line via the city's web site.

Homeowners will have an opportunity to participate by filling out a form entitled, "Does Your House Have a History?" Many homeowners have conducted in-depth research of their home and, in some cases, their neighborhood. This information is a valuable resource which should be documented and preserved as part of your home's legacy.
