The city teamed up with Brown Traffic to install a pedestrian detection signal that uses microwave technology. The microwave will detect the pedestrians as they walk to the crosswalk. This signal is semi-actuated because there are loops only on Church Street, not Sheridan Road. The signal is actuated only when a pedestrian call, vehicle, and/or bicycle is detected on Church Street. Without this call or detection, the signal will continually remain green on Sheridan Road. This will be the first location in Evanston with this new pedestrian detection technology. Completion is expected by the end of July. Special thanks to Sat Nagar, Sr. Engineer, Engineering and Transportation, City of Evanston for providing the technical information |
