Evanston's Lakefront

· The Chicago Tribune reported that Lake Michigan water levels are down substantially from last year's levels. The beaches really show this, since they are much bigger now than in past years. Room for lots and lots of sunbathers!

· The new beach facility at Clark Street Beach is completed and ready for business. Now we will soon see how traffic flow works in and out at the new, all-purpose vehicle entrance. There remains concern about a street and sidewalk concentration of bikes, boat trailers, pedestrians, and cars. Recently, the concessionaire was found unloading materials at the Lagoon House. The new vehicle flow has made his job more difficult.

· The non-motorized boat facility at Dempster Beach has been completed. It is an extensive development, with more impact than hinted at its design drawings. A large section of beach has been outfitted for storage. As a result, pedestrians who use the path have now a very different view of the beach/lake in that area. Will gear (ice chests, etc) be stored on the beach, along with boats? We cross our fingers, hoping not.

· Evanston's ongoing water control project was recently found located above-ground in the eastern two blocks of Greenwood Street and in the parking area around Dawes/Patriots Parks. By the time of this report, the work site has been cleared away. Greenwood Beach area looks ready for the season to begin in just a few weeks. Hooray for summer!
